Peer Quizzing

With the technique Peer Quizzing, students use resources such as their notes or Knowledge Organsiers to test each other on previously taught content, using taught strategies. For example:

  • Flash cards

  • Quizzing, including using questions they create themselves.

They can do this at any point in a lesson, including in daily, weekly or monthly review activities.

Why use this technique?

With learning in mind, we should be trying to create as many opportunities as possible for students to retrieve knowledge over spaced periods of time. Peer Quizzing is one way we can do that.

Beyond this, the technique helps to make learning more collaborative and is something many students typically enjoy, which is good for motivation.

Focused reflection

  1. How well do you currently use this technique?

  2. Is it a technique you will focus on developing?

  3. If so, what are the key features you will focus on (things to do, and not do)?
