Have Another Go

With the technique, Have Another Go, students are asked to act on feedback immediately after it has been given, with the teacher re-checking performance soon after.

Why use this technique?

Often, students don’t understand the feedback they are given as much as they believe they have, or appear to have. Have Another Go checks that feedback has actually been understood (or not).

Example

In an English lesson, a student might have misused a semi-colon in a sentence. After explaining what they should have done, the teacher asks the student to write a new sentence, putting the feedback they have been given into practice. The teacher checks how they have done and repeats the process, if necessary.

Focused reflection

  1. How well do you currently use this technique?

  2. Is it a technique you will focus on developing?

  3. If so, what are the key features you will focus on (things to do, and not do)?
