Reveal Slowly
With the technique, Reveal Slowly, rather than all the information on a PowerPoint slide appearing at once, it appears incrementally, bit-by-bit.
Why use this technique?
Reveal Slowly helps direct student attention to the things we want them to think about, and avoid distractions.
Notes and tips
A good example of this technique in action is if you use the ‘animations’ feature of PowerPoint, so different points appear at different times. Or, rather than putting six different points on the same slide, you could use a different slide for each point.
If you are using animations, keep these simple - ‘appear’ and ‘disappear’ fit this brief. Fancy animations such as ‘swivel’ and ‘fly in’ tend to cause avoidable distractions and can get in the way of students thinking about the things we want them to be.
Focused reflection
