Varied Voice

With the technique, Varied Voice, you deliberately change the pace and volume of your voice during a presentation to students.

Why use this technique?

Varied Voice can benefit teaching and learning in at least two ways:

  1. Typically, change helps hold attention.

  2. Change can also help emphasise key points. For example, if you deliberately slow your oratory when you get to a key point, this can help emphasise the words you are using, making them more memorable.

Focused reflection

  1. How well do you currently use this technique?

  2. Is it a technique you will focus on developing?

  3. If so, what are the key features you will focus on (things to do, and not do)?
