WALT
WALT stands for: What we Are Learning Today.
When using WALT, learning intention statements begin in one of two ways:
‘We are learning about…’
‘We are learning to…’
For example:
‘We are learning about… the fall of the Roman Empire’, or
‘We are learning to… solve quadratic equations.’
Why use this technique?
WALT helps keep the focus on learning, as opposed to doing. For example, it helps avoid ‘learning intention’ statements like this: ‘We will be reading chapter three from our textbook and answering all of the questions at the end of this chapter’.
Focused reflection
How well do you currently use this technique?
Is it a technique you will focus on developing?
If so, what are the key features you will focus on (things to do, and not do)?
